When buying lingerie there are three important factors to consider. When they all come together correctly you can be sure of having found something which truly flatters your figure and will make you look your best.
1. Shape.
Many lingerie manufacturers create lingerie which is, apparently intended to be tight. Many customers believe this is because tight means sexy. It is important to distinguish between lingerie that fits well in order to show off your figure and lingerie that doesn't fit at all. We'll come back to this point when we look at fit, but there the point is that many lingerie items are styled for to create a rectangular silhouette. This is usually because this is the shape that uses least fabric and has nothing what ever to do with creating a sexy outline.
Most women are pear shaped, their hips are larger than their bust. Standard sizes allow for 2 inches of variation, but in the real world most women are slightly bigger. If they buy to fit the hips then the bust is too large. The result? Not sexy.
If on the other hand you buy for the bust, the hips and all the bulges in between won't fit, and the result is still not sexy. You will simply look fat. The solution is to buy for your bust size as long as you are careful to buy a shape where the fabric flows generously over the hips. Tight around the bust perhaps, but nowhere else.
2. Size
Some magazines try to persuade women to buy lingerie a size too small and say this is because it is sexy. Sadly, it's just not true. Wearing something that is too small only has one result. You look fat, and it really doesn't matter what size you are. Fit is all important. The real reason some magazines advocate buying a size smaller is to cover the fact that many lingerie ranges don't actually go up to the 40 inch bust size of the average American woman. If you go to a lingerie store don' just pick up your size and buy. There is a lot of variation from one company's size 12 to another's. Try the items on if you possibly can, and buy the one that fits, no matter what size it says it is on the label.
3. Color
Color can make a huge difference, not just to the way you look, but to the way you feel. Whatever you do, don't just buy black. Black is a color to hide in, it can blur your outline making you look slimmer, but any details on the garment will be lost, you just won't see them, and the absence of real color means that black underwear does nothing to enhance your appearance in the way that, for example a sapphire blue nightgown can look fantastic on a blue eyed blond, or a deep green or teal nightgowns looks great on a red-head. Choose a color to maximise your best features, bring out the color of your eyes or your hair. Choose silk or satin if you can, the soft gleam of the fabric is always flattering and be sure that you are comfortable with the style. Confidence is appealing. If you have chosen a style which makes you feel silly or maybe you're concerned that it reveals too much, the result is self-defeating. You won't feel good, so you wont look as good as you could either.
Don't buy something just because it looks good in a picture. Think about the shape, the size and the color of the lingerie you buy and you'll be able to look appealingly sexy whenever you choose.
